Director, Data Engineering and Operations - R0008163

As the Director of Data Engineering & Operations, you’ll lead data intelligence teams responsible for engineering innovative data solutions leveraging artificial intelligence techniques and you’ll lead database management teams in maintaining and evolving highly available enterprise class database systems.  You’ll cultivate high performing teams and guide them in advancing their technical skills and delivering efficiently and effectively in a stable, secure and cost-effective manner.  And you'll build strong relationships with your peers across Engineering and Operations and collaborate together to relentlessly pursue opportunities to advance our operational effectiveness and increase customer satisfaction.

You will leverage your experience and savvy to lead our teams in optimizing our processes and evolving our technology to continuously drive to a higher bar of innovation, performance and quality.  We are looking for someone with a unique balance of technical depth, customer focus, interpersonal skills, and a proven track record of growing leaders and developing new engineering capabilities within teams.

Key Roles/Responsibilities:

  • Cultivate a diverse, high-performing team that develops, recognizes and retains the best people and encourages a learning culture and growth mind-set.
  • Partner with key stakeholders to establish and champion technical strategies aligned with our strategic business objectives.
  • Lead data intelligence teams working in a microservice ecosystem in building highly reliable AI/ML infrastructure, delivering transformational AI experiences, and enabling data science at scale.
  • Lead database management teams in performance tuning and troubleshooting, backups and recovery, system monitoring, and capacity planning aligned with industry best practices to ensure highly available enterprise class database systems.
  • Sustain knowledge of industry trends and security practices and lead teams in adapting to emerging technologies and threats.
  • Identify and direct initiatives to further operational excellence by increasing efficiency and reducing risk, complexity, waste and cost.
  • Foster a culture that leverages metrics to make informed decisions and guide change.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or Information Technology or equivalent related work experience required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience between database administration and operations (SQL and Oracle) and data architecture, data engineering and machine learning
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in cloud technologies (Azure, AWS, GCP); Azure preferred
  • Awareness of security frameworks like NIST and strong understanding of data related security and compliance mandates
  • Practical experience leading software and/or system engineering teams required
  • Experience establishing and managing vendor relationships required
  • Experience working with large and geographically distributed teams required
  • Practical experience with lean and agile methodologies required; ITIL experience preferred
  • Available on a 24x7x365 basis when needed to provide tactical leadership for production impacting incidents or key customer events
